Annual Catholic Social Teaching Seminar




A week long seminar on Catholic Social Teaching entitled, "Till it and keep it": Being stewards for a just world, will be held May 16-21, 2009. The purpose of the meeting is to give to the 50 young college students more exposure to the social and moral teachings of the Church in order to contribute solid values and convictions to the formation of their minds and consciences. Some of the universities and colleges represented last year were:

  • Fordham University
  • St. John University
  • Seton Hall University
  • St. Thomas University
  • College of Notre Dame
  • College of St. Mary
  • Siena College
  • St. Mary's University
  • Ave Maria University
  • The College of St. Catherine
  • University of St. Thomas
  • St. Peter's College
  • Our Lady of the Lake University


Students attend meetings at the United Nations and lectures at the Holy See Mission. Speakers include:

  • Most Reverend Archbishop C. Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN
  • Senior officials of the United Nations
  • Ambassadors to the United Nations

Topics covered include:

  • Diplomacy and the Holy See
  • The impact of the Catholic Social Doctrine of UN Activities
  • Poverty and Social Development
  • Climate Change
  • World Peace and Security
  • Global impact and Human Rights
  • Christian Communities and Peacekeeping/Peacebuilding
  • Millennium Development Goals
  • Trafficking and Women's Issues
  • Terrorism and Drugs
