THE SERVITOR PACIS AWARD RECIPIENTS

2000 - Esteban Juan Caselli

Ambassador Esteban Juan Caselli, the son of Esteban Juan Caselli and Higinia Gentile, was born on 28 November 1942 in Argentina. He and his wife Beatriz Carmen Mancini have three children and several grandchildren. After completing a degree in business development, Ambassador Caselli began his lifelong and distinguished career as a public servant and diplomat. He has served in the following positions: 1962-1968, the First Official of the Notary “GARRIDO”; 1968-1972, Delegate in representation of Bishop of Añatuya at the executive branch of the National and Provincial Government; Personal Assessor “ad honorem” of the Minister of Government of the Municipality of Vicente Lopez, Dr. Angel E. GASTALDI; 1974-1976, Personal Assessor of the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires; 1969-1976, Co-Manager of SANTA CATALINA Society; 1974-1976, President of LESTON S.A.

From 1982 to 1989, Ambassador Caselli served as President of ANESCA S.A.; Economic and Financial Assessor of the Congregation of Marist Brothers in Argentina, in Italy, and of the Diocese of San Justo; Vice-President of the Federation of the Marist Colleges; 1984-1988, Personal Assessor of the Chief of Police of the Province of La Rioja; 1988-1989, Assessor of the First Vice-President of the Judiciary Branch of the Province of Buenos Aires; 8-7-89 to 15-12-89, Assessor of Minister for Internal Affairs of the Republic of Argentina, Dr. Eduardo Bauza; 9-7-89 to 19-4-90, Director of SOMISA - Conglomerate Society of Argentine iron metallurgy; 15-12-89 to 17-9-90, Assessor of Minister of Health and Social Action of the Republic of Argentina, Dr. Eduardo Bauza.

In September of 1990, Ambassador Caselli was named the President of the Administrative Commission at the Institute of Social Action for the Personnel of the Ministries of Health and Social Action, and of Labor and Social Security. In that same year he served in the following posts: 17-9-90 to 6-6-91: Chief of Assessors of the Secretary General of the Presidency of Argentina, Dr. Eduardo Bauza; 6-6-91 to 7-10-93, Adjunct Under-Secretary for the Administration of the Presidency of Argentina; 7-1-93 to 7-7-95, Under-Secretary for the Administration of the Presidency of Argentina; 9-7-95 to 1-11-95, Secretary of State for the Coordination of the Vice-Presidency of Argentina; 9-6-98 to 9-6-01, Member of the Council of Assessors of the “Path to Peace Foundation”; 15-6-98 to 17-7-98, Alternate Chief of the Argentinian Delegation for the Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the United Nations for the Establishment of the International Criminal Court; 18-3-97 to 10-12-99, Ambassador of Argentina to the Holy See and to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; 1-11-99 named a Knight of Magistral Grace of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; and on 13-12-99 appointed Secretary General (with the rank of Minister) of the Provincial Government of Buenos Aires (population 14 million).

Ambassador Caselli has received numerous honors throughout his career as a diplomat and civil servant, including being named Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Pius; Knight Grand Cross “pro Merito Melitense” of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; the distinction “Don Francisco de Goyay Lucientes”, in acknowledgment of his excellent work in affirming Christian values during his tour of duty at the Embassy of Argentina to the Holy See; and the Medal of Merit awarded by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bolivia for his active participation in the construction of its military cathedral.

In recognition of his outstanding service to God and country, particularly through his untiring efforts at promoting Christian values and respect for the dignity of the human person, the Path to Peace Foundation is pleased to bestow upon Ambassador Esteban Juan Caselli the title “Servitor Pacis”--Servant of Peace.
