Home / Awards / Servitor Pacis Award / 2006 THE SERVITOR PACIS AWARD RECIPIENTS 2006 - Jesús Colina Mr. Jesús Colina was born in Miranda de Ebro (Spain) and is married to Gisèle. They have three children. Mr. Colina received his Bachelor of Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and a Bachelor of Communications from Complutense University in Madrid. Jesús Colina has worked in Rome since 1991. He was the Editor in Chief of Proyección Mundial, a monthly Catholic magazine published in Mexico for Latin America, and Editor of Catholic World Report (U.S.), and Le Temps de l’Eglise (France). Since 1994, he has been the Rome correspondent for the weekly supplement Alfa y Omega, distributed by the Spanish daily newspaper, ABC. He also writes for other publications including Avvenire (Italian Catholic newspaper), and the National Catholic Register (U.S.). In 1997, Mr. Colina became the Founder and Director of ZENIT, an independent, non-profit internet news agency committed to spreading the Catholic Church’s message, especially the wealth of its social teaching. The ZENIT team comprises 52 journalists, writers, translators, technicians, and administrators from 14 countries. ZENIT is available in six languages and has 400,000 subscribers. In 1998, Jesús Colina became responsible for the contents of the Digital Network of the Church in Latin America, RIIAL, a project of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and the Latin American Bishops’ Council. In 2003, Mr. Colina became the co-founder and co-director of Periodismocatolico.com, the largest network of Catholic journalists in Spanish. Mr. Colina has also co-authored several books, including Escucha Mexico! (an analysis of the speeches of Pope Benedict XVI to the Mexican Bishops), “Consecrated Life and Culture of Communications,” and Diálogo fe-cultura (on Faith and culture). Some of the awards he has received include: “Bravo!” (bestowed by the Spanish Bishops’ Conference for communications), the “Golden Chalice Award” (for evangelization), and the “Thomas More” award in the International Journalism category, granted by the Catholic University of Our Lady of Asuncion (Paraguay). It is in recognition of his service to the Church in disseminating its teachings on peace and the dignity of the human person, and for covering effectively the work of the Holy See here at the United Nations, that the Path to Peace Foundation is pleased to bestow upon Jesús Colina the title Servitor Pacis, “Servant of Peace.”
