Home / Awards / Servitor Pacis Award / 2006 THE SERVITOR PACIS AWARD RECIPIENTS 2006 - Ambassador Dr. Dino Samaja Dr. Dino Samaja was born in Milan, Italy, in 1932, of Brazilian parents. He and his wife, Thereza Cavalcanti Samaja have three children and ten grandchildren. After completing high school, Dino attended the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras of the São Paulo University in Brazil, where he majored in Chemistry. He then pursued a specialization course in Pharaceutical Chemistry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he earned his Master of Science. Dr. Samaja continued his studies specializing in Microbiology at the Difco Laboratories in Detroit, and in Pharmaceutical Technology at the Istituto de Angeli S.p.A., in Milan, Italy. Some of the current positions he holds include: Executive Vice-President/Partner and Chairman of the Board of FARMASA – Laboratorio Americano de Farmacoterapia S.A.; Director/Partner: Alsa, ISC, Júpiter,Hofadi, Tuiomar; Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Paraguay; President of the Sao Paulo and Southern Brazil Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Chairman of the National Board of the Brazilian Associations of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; First Delegate to represent the Sovereign Military Order of Malta at the United Nations (1994); Member of the General Chapter in Rome of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Latin America Representative of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Grand Magistry in Rome; Vice-President of the American Coordination Center of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Coral Gables, FL; Former Council Member at the Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo; President of São Domingos Foundation. Among the many awards of distinction he has received are: Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, with the rank of Great Cross of Magistral Grace with sash; the pro Merito Melitensi Grand Cross, awarded by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Grand Official, awarded by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; Commander by the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; “Person of the Year” (1983) awarded for services rendered to the Community of the City of São Paulo; Marechal Osório Merit Medal, awarded by the Brazilian Army (1993); Merit Medal awarded for services renderered by the Community of the State of Paraná; “Service Above Self Award” by Rotary International (first to be awarded to a Brazilian citizen); Official, awarded by the Order of SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro in Geneva. It is in recognition of his self-less commitment to the needs of others, especially the poor, that the Path to Peace Foundation is proud to bestow upon Dr. Dino Samaja the title Servitor Pacis, “Servant of Peace.”
