Bunlert Tharachatr Bunlert Tharachatr presently serves as Executive Director of the Catholic Office for Emergency Relief and Refugee (COERR), established in Bangladesh by Cardinal (then Archbishop) Michael Michai Kitbunchu. Since 1978, however, he has worked to assist hundreds of thousands of Khmer, Laotian and Vietnamese civilians fleeing their war torn country into Thai soil. Fr. Bunlert was instrumental in obtaining financial support from abroad in order to assist the refugees with basic needs, education, and other social services. He began his work at COERR in 1979 with only three staff members. Due to the organization's expanding activities the staff now numbers over 400 members. At the invitation of King Sihanouk he began assisting the more than 370,000 Cambodians who returned to Cambodia in 1992-93 under UNHCR programs, helping to reconstruct the country through education, training, and social services. Additionally, Fr. Bunlert has assisted many whose lives were devastated by natural disasters, not only in Thailand, but also in Japan, Iran, India, Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Sudan and Rwanda.
